This listing is for a set of six framed vintage fruit prints by Penn Prints, NY from the 1950s or 1960s. Each print has the name of the fruit in French underneath the image. Professionally framed at a later date with a peach colored outer mat and a camel inner mat, under glass, in a carved wooden gold leaf frame with an antique gold finish. Framed size is 13.5"W x 1"D x 16"H; site is 8.25"W x 10.75"H. These prints are by Penn Prints of New York who produced high quality reproductions of museum art and in this case, reproductions from Annales de Pomologie Belge et Etrangere (Annals of Belgian and Foreign Pomology); Alexandre Joseph Désiré Bivort (1809-1872) (editor) by F. Parent, Brussels: 1850s. It was published as a part of a periodical on pomology, the branch of botany devoted to the study and cultivation of fruits, which in its entirety included 384 lithographed plates. In the mid-19th century Belgium was a European center for horticulture as well as a major publishing center for illustrated botanical periodicals and books such as this one. In excellent condition with minor wear to the frames and discoloration in the margins caused by acidity of the mat.
